  Description:
The band:  Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie, John McGeoch.  Filmed on an island in the middle of a lake, a literal interpretation of the song.  It's a straight performance piece, the band play their instruments while any amount of fireworks explode and shower down on upon them.  Siouxsie even finds time to wave a couple of sparklers about.  The video was cut short however, when "the guy in charge of the pyrotechnics blew his face off!".  (Siouxsie)  Source:  Melody Maker 17/10/92.   As a result some shots had to be duplicated.  The superimposed fireworks were courtesy of Prince Charles & Lady Diana's wedding, secretly filmed by video director Clive Richardson.

  Fireworks Lyrics

The body is wrapped in shadow
The face is built of cinders
And panic tears thro' your silhouette
As you're squeezed by burning fingers
And he's crackling in colours
With teeth of gelignite

When he sighs his song of pirouettes
Thro' a dance of dynamite

We are fireworks, slowly, glowing
Bold and bright
We are fireworks, burning shapes
Into the night

His fuel is our frustration
And dreams begin to ache
And all the while we wear a party smile
And happily we shiver
Happily we shake
Oh shake, shake, shake

We are fireworks, slowly, glowing
Bold and bright
We are fireworks, burning shapes
Into the night

Twist and turn, burn, burn, burn
Twist and turn, burn baby burn

  Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:

SIOUXSIE: " 'Fireworks' indicated the direction we wanted for the album. We wanted strings on that. John wanted a machine but Steve and I said it had to be real strings. They give a real, earthy, rich sound. You could hear the strings spitting and breathing and wheezing." Source:  Record Mirror 18/12/82
SIOUXSIE: "We'd heard that he (Martin Rushent) wanted to work with us. We wanted to have a go. We thought he might have a different approach to the Banshees, that he wouldn't treat us like a cult. We'd have changed him as much as he changed us. Rushent agreed to a date to start working with us and ten he kept putting us off at short notice so we've abandoned the idea." Source:  Record Mirror 12/06/82
SIOUXSIE: "The song's very sexual, explosive, distraught." Source:  Record Hunter 12/92

  Coal Mind Lyrics

Two black holes staring
From deep in the coal mind
Murder in mind, murder deep in the coal mine
Aphids and triffids bump mad into earwigs
Eating their way-through the green brain vegetation

Mutter mutter eyelids wonder
Twitching in time to troubled slumber
Oh Mutter mutter eyelids wonder
Twitching in time to troubled slumber

Come mine this coal mind
Come mind this coal mine
It's dark in here and it's been a long time
In need of ignition
In need of nutrition

There's famine in mind
There's murder in mind
Blank sockets squinting from the hot coals scorching

More holes in the coal mind
The pit is imploding
Headlines and hook lines bump blind into lifelines

Murder in mind, someone throw him a line
Murder in mind, someone throw him a line

Oh Madonna Medusa
I spy a loser
Madonna Medusa
I spy a loser
Madonna Medusa
I spy.....a loser

Ignition nutrition and now ventilation
A sigh of relief from deep in the coal mind

Gun blew his roof off
Gun blew his roof off
Gun blew his roof off
Stopped murder in mind
Murder in mind

Oh Madonna Medusa
I spy a loser
Madonna Medusa
I spy a loser
Madonna Medusa
I spy.....

  We Fall Lyrics

Screaming blue and tangerine
Come and join this crazy dream
Of Vampire kites
Painted white
Trails of Vampire kites
Torsos painted white
They're all around
So don't make a sound
See sparks of sparkling green
See waves of tangerine
Please don't scream
In this dream
See a tiny box of silver
See a flaming glove of amber
We start to fall
At the beginning of a fall...
They say when you hit the bottom
You don't wake up at all
Not at all
We start to fall..

Slowdive Advert - Click Here For Bigger ScanSiouxsie & The Banshees ought to be the eight wonder of the world.  Whatever they do is excellent.  This starts off with an intro that sounds as if it's going to lead into the theme of "Psycho" and progresses into a steadily descending careering Banshee journey.  This is not quite as immediate as some of their other stuff, or as varied, but it's as gripping as ever.  The Banshees have patented their own sound, but they never reproduce it in the same mould without imaginative twists.

  Description:
The band:  Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie, John McGeoch.  Filmed in a hanger, at the Isle Of Dogs, London.  Siouxsie swings from a trapeze while the rest of the band sport false eyelashes for some close-up winking to camera and perform a dance routine choreographed by Ginette Landray, later to guest as singer with The Glove.  The video also features a wolfhound type dog, the relevance of which is a mystery.  Last video appearance of John McGeoch.

CREDITS

  Slowdive Lyrics

Get your head down to the ground
Shake it all around
A dirty sound
Put your knees into your face
And see if you can race
Real slow

It's a slowdive
When you die slow
Oh it's a low jive
Do the slowdive

Now you jump back like a hound
Emit a howling sound
Dig those limbs into the floor
And holler out for more

And you revel in the dips
When your backbone slips
Taking honeysuckle sips
From your rolling hips
It shifts and it shifts
It's a slowdive when you die slow
When you come alive it's a low jive
Do the slowdive

SEVERIN: "It was just a drunken evening..." Source:  Melody Maker 17/10/92
SIOUXSIE: "Another sexual song, but more playful. It's very open, very relaxed, loose. I wrote it on the spot after a jam in the studio." Source:  Record Hunter 12/92
SIOUXSIE: "I remember I wanted the string players to slow down and get tired, so the ’Oh my God!’ in the middle of the song is one of the string players’ wrists falling off! And the video was this boy’s first dance routine! It took months of rehearsal, and getting him to wear false eyelashes." Source:  Melody Maker 17/10/92
SIOUXSIE: " 'Slowdive' was an improvised lyric...It's like, umm, if you're making music, what it amounts to is, because you're expressing something you can't say in words. So for me to explain what that is, is taking away something that you lose when you're just using speech.  With music it should speak for itself.   Cannibal Roses Lyrics

Listening to their murmurings
Trespassing through the topiary
Lulled by siren perfumes
Of their seductive petal openings

Cannibal roses
Enticing out noses
With exotic aromas
Then they bite off our noses
Whilst stood on our toeses

Red snappers and finger pops
Fighting off psycho pomps
Ring a ring a roses
Cannibal roses

It’s been one of those mornings
They came with no warning
It’s been one of those mornings
They came

Melt! Advert Click Here For Bigger ScanIf at first there seems something faintly ludicrous about a Banshees' Xmas carol, think again.  Siouxsie has always loved ceremony and has recently begun to sing.  Amidst drums and symbols, she makes a stately march towards Christ and arrives charmingly, dignity intact.

'Melt!' is the cornerstone of 'Dreamhouse's' vision of sex tangling with death, a sensuous, melodic moan backed by fake bouzoukis, one for the converts.  The Xmas carol will have Steeleye Span fans flocking to the Banshees in droves.

  Melt! Lyrics

You are the melting man
You are your situation
There is no time to breathe
And yet one single breath
Leads to an insatiable desire
Of suicide in sex

So many blazing orchids
Burning in your throat
Making you choke
Making you sigh
Sigh in tiny deaths

So Melt!
My lover, melt!
She said melt!
My lover, melt!

You are the melting man
And as you melt
You are beheaded
Handcuffed in lace, blood & sperm

Swimming in poison
Gasping in the fragrance
Sweat carves a screenplay
Of discipline and devotion

So Melt!
My lover, melt!
She said melt!
My lover, melt!

Can you see?
See into the black of a long, black car
Pulling away from a funeral of flowers
With my hand between your legs
Melting

MCGEOCH: "Siouxsie and I began to have one or two musical differences. One in particular was over a French hymn she wanted to record ('Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant'), possibly because she had some French connection in the family. I said, "I really can't see this working, so if you don't mind I'm not gonna take part.' I didn't. That sowed the seeds a little." Source:  The Authorised Biography 2002
