	When they recorded in Hawaii for 1983 album 'Feast' The Creatures steered well clear of the 'hula'. When they recorded in Spain for 1989 album 'Boomerang' The Creatures steered well clear of the 'flamenco'. So it comes as a surprise when recording in Japan for forthcoming album ''Hái!' they chose the subject of Godzilla for the lead off single of the same name. Godzilla is after all more Japanese than Sushi. However with a love of cult movies and an ongoing Banshee/Creatures fascination with childhood it seems almost appropriate. If there is a 'Creatures' Sound' then Godzilla is more reminiscent of it than anything from the electronica of their last studio album 'Anima Animus'. If the purpose was to get back to basics then we have been slightly mislead. This song is by no means as sparse as The Creatures' debut 'Wild Things' EP, but finds a fine balance between that and their more recent output. The opening strains of Godzilla bring to mind the opening jaws of some ferocious dinosaur, but the mood quickly shifts into a quirky jaunt in the manner of previous outings 'Fury Eyes' & 'Gecko' that seems much more fitting for the infamous lizard. Siouxsie is in a playful, sprightly mood, the lyrics themselves an affront to childhood stereotyping. The influence of the 'Kodo' drummers is not clear on this song but may be more prevalent on the forthcoming album. But drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain, and Budgie gives Godzilla it's necessary backbone. In some ways this song is everything you would expect from The Creatures, but without them delivering just that, what you would expect. It's melodic, it has humour, it's twisted. It's The Creatures new single 'Godzilla'.
