Musicians:
Hai!:
-
Whilst on tour
in Japan with the Banshees in 2002, Budgie fulfilled a lifelong ambition
to work with Leonard Eto (previously of the renowned Kodo Drummers).
-
The basis of Hai! was recorded in one spontaneous drum duet between Budgie and
Leonard Eto on 19/08/02.
-
The
album sleeve is a photograph called The
Shinto Bride by
Kimiko
Yoshida.
Say
Yes!:
Godzilla!:
-
Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:
SIOUXSIE: "Godzilla
is rather funny. It's a bit about the way people see me: "Who
are you? Are you glamour, scary, vicious or tender?" Well, I'm
a bit of everything! Godzilla also reflects the innocence, the
optimism and the modernism of Japan." Source: Premonition
10/03.
-
There are two videos for 'Godzilla!',
both visually the same, one is instrumental.
-
Arguably one of Japan's biggest
exports.
-
The first drum beat Budgie made
during the spontaneous Tokyo drum sessions resulted in the backing
track for 'Godzilla!'.
Imagoro:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:
SIOUXSIE: "
'Imagoro'
means 'About this Time' and that was a way to use Japanese language.
There's some anger in this song, but there's also a kind of
resignation..." Source:
Premonition 10/03.
Tourniquet:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:
SIOUXSIE:
I approached this album like a LP with an A-side and a B-side. So we
could have an extraverted side and an introverted and calmer one.
Tourniquet represents this difference between an extraverted and
very physical side and something at the opposite." Source:
Premonition 10/03.
BUDGIE:
"I think the
sound of the word 'torniquet' itself influenced the song's outcome.
The whole thing sounds like a rope slowly being twisted and
tightened." Source:
Whispering & Hollering 11/03.
Further Nearer:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:
SIOUXSIE: "A track
like Further Nearer shows the reserved, philosophic, poetic and
almost religious aspects of the Japanese traditions." Source:
Premonition 10/03.
Tantara:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:
Noun: 1. A trumpet
or horn fanfare. 2. A sound resembling such a fanfare.
3. A hunting cry.
Cish Cash:
- Collaboration with Basement
Jaxx and recorded
without actually meeting.
- Although ultimately not released as a single, a
video
promo was filmed. Siouxsie, however doesn't make an
appearance.
The Temple Of Dawn:
- The vocal for this song is in
fact parts of the Godzilla chorus reversed.
Attack Of The Super Vixens:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment:
Russ
Meyer's film 'Super
Vixens'.
