The nation's remixers get to work on last Creatures album. After Siouxsie Sioux & Budgie released their latest Creatures album, Anima Animus, earlier in 1999, they were apparently deluged with requests from remixers. This is the pick of a crop that includes Howie B. Witchman and the Beloved, plus newer artists such as Icarus or Dr Psyche. While there are some chunky beats and catchy loops, it's better suited to home listening rather than the dancefloor. The tracks that work best are those that capture The Creatures' dark, anarchic spirit - as in Howie B's lascivious mix of Prettiest Thing. Chamber's smoothly menacing take on EP track Slipping Away, the frantic Guillotine by abstract crew Black Dog and Witchman's hypnotic '4x4 Mix of Say. The rest feature less remarkable grooves, falling between the two stools of clubland beats and the truly experimental. 3/5 Nick Duerden |

Disconnected Lyrics | ||
Don't you
think it funny Make the
heart grow fonder And when
you're feeling sad Don't you
think it funny In Siberia Just when
you're comforted Oh the
pain of joy You're
disconnected Make the
heart grow fonder Don't you
think it funny |

SIOUXSIE: "It's when you still want more, when you want the party to continue and it's beyond being sensible. I remember times when I was the one person left in a place, and the euphoria that goes along with it. 2nd Floor was my idea of what a private drinking bar would be, that was open all the time. There's something very religious about bars. They're like altars. The lighting. The colour of the bottles. Having a drink. It's like Santa's Grotto time." Source: Diva 04/99. | ||
