Prettiest Thing (Hormonal Mix)Release Date: 30th August Label: Sioux Format: CD/CD2/10inch Blue Vinyl The Creatures resurrection has been well documented - they decided to call it a day with the Banshees in 1996 when The Sex Pistols did their come back tour. In June 1998 Siouxsie and Budgie resurfaced as The Creatures with the Eraser Cut EP, followed by 2nd Floor in October then came the Anima Animus album in February 1999 followed by Say. With each release they have not only shown us that they have staying power but they have developed the esoteric sound of The Creatures rather than take the predictable Siouxsie and The Banshees nostalgia route which so many of their contemporaries have. Now listen to the 'Prettiest Thing' (Hormonal Mix) a reworking from their 'Anima Animus' album by Howie B. Howie is no stranger to Siouxsie and Budgie having worked on their Banshee's smash 'Peek A boo' single as an engineer. The Hormonal Mix is a driving funky rhythmical dancey interpretation of the original Prettiest Thing on the album - the vocals have all been kept proving how flexible Siouxsie's highly acclaimed voice is. The Hormonal Mix is followed by the original version which has Budgie drumming for Britain. Then follows the Subsonic Legacy Mix - Subsonic Legacy is Danny from Renegade Soundwave - the original breakbeat outfit pre-Meatbeat Manifesto, pre Chemical Brothers and definitely pre-Fat Boy Slim. Here Danny has gone for a funky breakbeat rhythm which backs her distinctive vocals. The Prettiest Thing definitely makes you want to put on your high heels, slap on some lip liner and go dancing baby. | The Band: Siouxsie and Budgie do not appear in this video. The only video in the band's history that does not feature any band member. Instead the video is based around the recent artwork of The Creatures releases. Male and Female toilet sign figures, man in overcoat, woman in bikini, etc. The video itself is an animation of various artwork overlaid with footage of fish, in fast shot editing. There also features an androgynous boy/girl who appears with the word NEVER (with a line through it) superimposed over their face, but it's not clear who they are or what their relationship to the song is. The video uses the 'Hormonal Mix' of 'Prettiest Thing' and not the single edit. | ||
