Surely
'Slowdive', the Banshees' previous 45, was the Great Lost Single of
1982. In 'Melt!' we have another superlative, atmospheric track from
the current album, fully consistent with the group's reputation for
singles that conjure a small world of sensual mystery (and exciting stuff
like that) inside a couple of minutes.
Best, I think to overlook the
alleged double A-side, wherein Siouxsie intones the old French crimbo hymn
'Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant' in a voice that lacks either of the qualities
the song requires, namely tenderness, or satire.
