Description: | ||
The band: Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie, Martin McCarrick, John Klein. An exploding champagne cork and a golden cherub set the scene. On a set comprised of palm trees and a heart shaped swimming pool (in reference to Jayne Mansfield, the subject of the song), Siouxsie unveils a radically new look, shoulder length wavy hair and a tight sparkling dress. A softer looking Siouxsie shimmies her way through the video, and at one point cavorts in her bathing suit in the 'heart shaped pool of fame' . The video is an interpretation of a glamourous Hollywood lifestyle and reflects Mansfield's love of pink and 'heart shaped' things.. The boys in the band line up moodily in the background taking it in turns to nurse a pet poodle (another reference to Jayne Mansfield). The Eastern flavoured music is complimented during the instrumental break with Siouxsie's exotic dance moves against a backdrop of Indian images.

Inspiration/Influence/Band Comment
Jayne Mansfield was the inspiration behind the song 'Kiss Them For Me'. "This song was sparked off by Jayne Mansfield's story. She typified the dream that Hollywood holds for young women - a fairytale thing." (Siouxsie) Source: Record Hunter 12/92.

There's no denying Siouxsie looks great these days: recent photographs have seen her smoldering like Hedy Lamarr or Sophia Loren, or fluttering eyelashes coyly a la Audrey Hepburn. Meanwhile on this picture sleeve she's a dead ringer for a randy Spanish widow. However, and I apologise for boring you with irrelevances like, say, the music, "Shadowtime" itself is watered down Banshees by numbers. The big chiming guitars virtually catapult the song towards American stadia, and the whole thing has dollar/pound signs doing whizzing-fruit-machine-hits-jackpot impressions in it's eyes. I'm all for ditching the avant-garde and diving into the mainstream, but Christ in a tunic, it's got to be done with a bit more flair and élan than this.

Description: | ||
The band: Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie, Martin McCarrick, John Klein. The location? A different solar system. Against a backdrop of moons, stars and planets, each member of the band is wearing a low strung guitar, including Siouxsie. Lined up along the surface of another planet, Siouxsie in the foreground, the whole band play exaggerated 'air guitar' to great effect. Another clever device is the use of stillness, whereby band members appear to be frozen in time. The instrumental break utilises stock footage, drawings, sketches of planets, moons, stars etc.

Description: |
||
The band. Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie, Martin McCarrick, John Klein. Shot late September, early October 1991. The video has a 'Man From U.N.C.L.E', 'The Avengers', British Spy, 60's feel to it. Siouxsie, doing her best Emma Peel impersonation hangs precariously from the rooftops. The band members perform flag signals in formation. Cutaway shots show Siouxsie swirling and lurching in a feather headdress like a benevolent Disney Villianess. Siouxsie is later seen embracing and kissing another woman (Severin's then girlfriend 'Cricket') in a tableau reminiscent of Man Ray's photograph 'Nusch Eluard Et Sonia Mosse' Siouxsie high kicks, ala Emma Peel and is last seen spiralling into oblivion amidst some swirling animated graphics . There are three versions of this video in existence. The long form version appears on the 'Twice Upon A Time' video collection. A shorter, single length version exists but has not received a domestic release. Finally there is a censored version that edits out the lesbian kiss to make it suitable for the censors at MTV. Last video directed by Peter Scammel.

Description: | ||
The band: Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie. Although both Martin McCarrick and John Klein play on this track, they were not asked to appear in the video. Tim Burton asked the Banshees to write/record the theme song for 'Batman Returns'. The result of which was 'Face To Face'. The understanding was that Tim Burton would also direct the video for the song. So enthused was the film maker that he showed the band preliminary sketches of characters that he would include in the shoot, some of which would ultimately end up in his own film 'A Nightmare Before Christmas'. However, preview audiences showed signs of not enjoying Burton's original ending for the film, in which Catwoman dies, and he was called back to re-edit/shoot a new ending. Burton's renewed schedule meant that he was no longer available to shoot the video and he handed the reigns over to Neil Abramson. The video itself, shot in Brick Lane, London, is grandly Gothic, in the true sense of the word, with beautiful sets throughout. Siouxsie looks stunning in her appropriation of the Catwoman look , tight, black, rubber/vinyl backless dress with the obligatory stiletto boots. Severin and Budgie are relegated to Penquinesque grotesques, shuffling, bowing and at one point swinging from the rafters like sleeping Vampire bats. The band footage is inter-cut with scenes from the film. Classic moment; Siouxsie reclines on a Chaise Lounge, gazing into a mirror that is backed with a close-up of the face of the Mona Lisa.

The lyric 'Just us, the cameras and those wonderful people out there in the dark' is a actually a line quoted by Gloria Swanson at the end of the film Sunset Boulevard.
