SEVERIN: "The first idea we came up with was Sparks, so we went through all the singles before realising that
the best choice was the most obvious one: 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us'."

track." Source: The Authorised Biography 2002.

This Wheel's
On Fire:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SIOUXSIE: "Dylan’s ’Wheels On Fire’ was me giving my bow to Julie Driscoll who did this wonderful version of it and who I still admire a lot for having been this strong and proud cool woman at a time when there were all these cute little-doll-like pop girlies."
Source: Rock World 01/10/92.
SIOUXSIE: "I had the hots for Julie Driscoll!. I can’t remember when this originally came out, but I’d have been about 11, and I was besotted by her, by the way she looked, by her voice. It was very different to watching Lulu on ‘Top Of The Pops’, this woman with a shaven head and huge black eyes. I thought she was incredibly beautiful, very spiky and strong and tough - not at all cute and cuddle and feminine. And I loved the song. It conjured up all sorts of fantastic stories for
me." Source: Melody Maker 17/10/92.
SEVERIN: "It wasn’t until I dug it out of my record collection that I realised it was written by Bob
Dylan." Source: Melody Maker 17/10/92.
SIOUXSIE: "We nearly didn't do it when I found out it was a Bob Dylan song. I sulked for ages."

idea for a promo video revolved around a circus theme, wheels metamorphosing
into circus tents and lots of turning imagery but this idea
was scrapped in favour of the horse drawn carriage version. Source:

- When Siouxsie discovered
that 'This

was written by Bob Dylan they almost didn’t record it, Siouxsie
was quoted as saying that she hates Bob Dylan. "We nearly

sulked for ages." (Siouxsie) Source: Record

the piano intro of the Julie Driscoll version.

Strange Fruit:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SEVERIN: "I don't think Siouxsie had heard Billie Holiday before we listened to 'Strange Fruit'. And I think that anyone can sing a protest song. But what interested us most about 'Strange Fruit' was the fact that originally there was no set music, what with it being based on an old poem."
Source: NME 21/03/87.
SEVERIN: " 'Strange Fruit' was Carruthers' idea, though I thought we should add a New Orleans funeral march in the middle."
Source: The Authorised Biography 2002.

You're
Lost Little Girl:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SIOUXSIE: "Jim Morrison. His voice has been aped and affected by so many people but he still sounds so relaxed and natural. I like the empty songs best where it's just his voice and a single instrument. His voice was definitely the lead instrument in The Doors."
Source: Smash Hits 27/10/83.

The Passenger:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SIOUXSIE: "Iggy Pop’s someone we’ve admired for a long time, and the first time we played France, our gig was cancelled without anyone telling us. But we found out that he was playing the same night, so we all bundled into a cab and, as we got there, in the distance, you could hear ’The Passenger’. The song is very much a journey in itself."
Source: Melody Maker 17/10/92.
SEVERIN: "Something like 'The Passenger' is an obvious favourite. NME 21/03/87SEVERIN: "We thought for about a week that we couldn't possibly get away with covering 'Passenger'. Eventually we said, 'let's just do it and see what it sounds like'..."

Gun:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SEVERIN: " 'Gun' was from John Cale's 'Fear', the only album that Siouxsie and I each owned independently when we first met."
Source: The Authorised Biography 2002.
SIOUXSIE: "On 'Gun', he (Carruthers) added a really straight acoustic guitar bit which sounded like the theme
to Blue Peter or something, so I had this idea of twisting the knobs on the mixing desk and really fucking up
the sound to make it more exciting. John was outraged and came storming in
accusing me of wrecking some great artistic piece of work. He just wasn't responsive to any kind of invention or creativity."
Source: The Authorised Biography 2002.
- Recorded
28/07-01/08/86 at Abbey Road Studios, final mix 01/10/86. Source: The File,

Cale - Close Watch, An
Introduction To.
- When later played backwards formed the basis of the
song 'Peek
A Boo'.
Sea Breezes:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SEVERIN: "Roxy Music were such a great role model. I don't think there has been another band like them in the way that they managed to cross across everything, somehow. In a lot of ways that is what (The Banshees) were hoping for."
Source: NME 2002.
SEVERIN: "It was really odd that we chose ‘Sea Breezes’ in the end because it wasn’t a particular favourite. It’s just that, when we went through everything, we couldn’t do anything with much of it because it was just completely perfect.”
Source: NME 1990.

Little Johnny Jewel:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
SEVERIN: "We've been playing 'Little Johnny Jewel' at soundchecks for years - basically because we've always liked it. But we also wanted an element of surprise on the record, we wanted to do songs which people wouldn't expect us to cover."
Source: NME 21/03/87.

She's Cuckoo:
- Inspiration/Influence/Band
Comment:
Originally titled 'He's
Cuckoo', Budgie
is inspired by the 'cuckoo' noise that emanates from
his boiling kettle one morning, leafs through his Observer
Book Of Birds and writes the lyrics.

Phase Four, Issue Four.
- Recorded for a BBC Session 02/87.
- Siouxsie wrote the
lyrics specifically for the BBC Session.
Hair Today Gone Tomorrow:
- After many years with her
trademark spiky hairstyle, Siouxsie decides that it's time for a
change and has her hair drastically cut and restyled by Vidal
Sassoon on 30/01/87. For the time being the new hairstyle is kept under wraps, or in this
case a long spiky wig. On the 15/02 Siouxsie engages the
services of photographer Anton Corbijn to take the exclusive shots
of her new barnet.
Janice Long BBC Session:
- When asked to record a session
for BBC's Janice Long show the Banshees decided on a different
approach. With the phrase 'Something Old, Something New,
Something Borrowed, Something Blue' in mind they recorded the
following songs: 'Shooting Sun' (something old), 'Song From
The Edge Of The World' (something new), 'Little Johnny Jewel'
(something borrowed) and 'Something Blue' (something blue).
Instant Club Hit:
- In 1987, the
group Dead
Milkmen
released the single, 'Instant Club Hit (You'll
Dance To Anything), which features the lines "Oh baby look at
you, don't you look like Siouxsie Sioux. How long did it take
to get that way, what a terrible waste of energy".
Adoption:
- In addition
to 'Gregory' the Peccary and 'Amy' the Armadillo, Siouxsie
and Budgie
also sponsored a Meer Cat in 1986/7. Source: Smash
Hits 1987.
Kenny
Morris & John McKay:
