Another tale of fatal charm from Siouxsie, a tangled web of sex and death, that's not a million miles from 'Melt!'. Recorded in Hawaii with the aid of local drummers, 'Girl' tinkles it's way into the brain and takes up residence. A little on the skimpy side but some dances are brief.

Description: | ||
The band: Siouxsie, Budgie. The set, built by Siouxsie and Budgie consists of metal, rivets, wire mesh, nails and a spinning wheel. The aim of the video is to contrast the soft warm flesh of Siouxsie and Budgie against the harsh, cold and dangerous surface of the many metal elements. Part of the action takes place behind the spokes of a spinning wheel. There are a couple of staged slaps and later Siouxsie is seen lying on a bed of nails. The scene that includes a shot of a metal iron was inspired by Man Ray's photograph, 'The Gift'. The video received an unofficial ban by the BBC who deemed the Sadomasochistic theme unsuitable for viewers. First video to be directed by Tim Pope.

A
big blast of 60s swing laced with a deft 80s touch sung by none other
than the graceful - Siouxsie?
Releasing a cover version of Mel Torme's classic is about the most alternative thing The Creatures could have done. And it works. The siren really sounds great as layer after layer of multi - tracked voice get going. And wait for the video. A gold plated hit for sure. Paul Bursche |

Description: | ||
The band: Siouxsie, Budgie. The set is an extension of the reverse of the 'Right Now' record sleeve (a painting depicting a brass band), and was created by design team, Da Gama. The theme is gold, gold and more gold. Siouxsie starts the proceedings with a high kick dressed like a golden Medusa. Next she is seen reclining on a Chase Lounge kitted out like Cleopatra and later, trapped in a tangle of rope like a golden ship figurehead. Both Siouxsie and Budgie appear covered in gold make-up, Siouxsie with black hieroglyphic style detail. The final scene involves Siouxsie in a crucifixion pose behind a thin gauze which is torn through by Budgie in a scene reminiscent of one from the film Cleopatra.

The band: Siouxsie Sioux, Budgie. This video was made as part of the 'Play At Home' documentary for Channel 4. The set is white and simply furnished with a drum kit, tubular bells and a weathervane. Siouxsie, in bowler hat and using an umbrella as a prop, lip syncs to the song. Inter-cut with Budgie's drumming, Siouxsie tapping out the rhythm on tubular bells and both Siouxsie and Budgie playing the part of, what is in fact a trumpet, on harmonica. The role of director fell to Siouxsie and Budgie themselves.
